Project Title: Caspian Books Mural

Client: Caspian Books, Bookstore in Tracy, California

Project Overview:

For Caspian Books, I was entrusted with creative freedom to design a captivating mural that would not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space but also establish a deeper connection between the store and the community it serves. The owner’s only stipulation was that the mural should prominently feature flowers in shades of pink, purple, and blue.

Design Concept:

Given the unique, long, narrow space allocated between the ceiling and the front door, I envisioned a design that would not only embrace the floral theme but also serve as a welcoming and immersive entryway. The central element of the mural features intricate vines framing the front door, adorned with blossoming flowers in the specified colors.

Symbolic Significance:

Family Connection: To strengthen the bond between the store and its community, I meticulously selected flower genera that represent the birth flowers of the owner’s family members. This choice added a personal touch to the mural, making it a symbol of familial ties and community.

Books as Portals: The mural incorporates a book, open and with pages unfurling, intertwined seamlessly with the vines. This symbolic representation of a book taking flight signifies the power of literature to transport readers to different worlds, echoing the magic of reading and exploration.

Gold Outlines:

In keeping with the Neo Deco theme of the business, I thoughtfully integrated subtle yet captivating gold outlines to enhance the roses. These luminous golden accents not only harmonize with the store’s overall aesthetics but also play a role in illuminating the mural within the subdued bookstore lighting. Furthermore, in a delightful nod to the beloved Harry Potter franchise, I interwove the iconic stars depicted in the series’ chapter titles. This inclusion not only adds a touch of magic to the mural but also resonates with fans of the literary world, offering them a familiar and enchanting connection. Together, the Neo Deco elegance, celestial touches, and literary homage create a captivating and entrancing visual experience that enriches the atmosphere of Caspian Books.

Harmonizing Themes:

By blending the elements of gold and flowers, the mural achieves a harmonious synthesis of both cottagecore and Neo Deco themes, ensuring that it seamlessly integrates with the overall ambiance and design philosophy of Caspian Books.
