Project Title: Record Store Logo Design
Client: Blast From the Past, Tracy, California
Description:
I collaborated with Blast from the Past, a local record store in Tracy, California, to create a unique logo and T-shirt design aligning with their store’s revamped vision. The client’s concept centered around an “alien theme,” with the key element being an extraterrestrial character holding a record.
Design Concept:
The core of the design revolves around an endearing and playful extraterrestrial character, perfectly blending the concept of an alien and a music enthusiast. On the right, you can see the alien character holding a vinyl record, embodying the store’s connection to music and entertainment.
Alternate Design Possibilities:
To explore various avenues within the alien theme, I also experimented with alternative design options, one showcased on the left side. This variation maintains the alien theme while offering a more diverse visual interpretation that can be adapted for different promotional materials and merchandise, such as round stickers.
Typography:
The bubbly font style is reminiscent of the 1960’s and 1970’s culture, which celebrated art, music, and a free-spirited lifestyle. Choosing this font was strategic in trying to evoke nostalgia for this era when records were at peak popularity. The font choice not only draws a connection to this era, but also helps the design stand out and become more memorable, as this font is not often used in current designs.
Color Palette:
The color palette requested for this project is a single-color, black or white, as this is a design intended to be cut on vinyl and ironed on a T-shirt. Although simple, the design will be ironed onto tie-dye clothing, which supports the connection to the 1960’s and 1970’s culture.
Reflection:
This logo and T-shirt design not only captures the essence of the client’s vision but also serves as a distinctive symbol that represents their commitment to the Tracy community and their unique identity within the local business landscape. It has been a pleasure to contribute to a project that supports and celebrates the revitalization of Tracy, California.
